New Delhi, Aug. 6 -- The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday criticised the union government's reported proposal to impose charges on Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions, accusing the Centre of reneging on its commitment to keep the country's flagship digital payment platform free for users.
In a statement issued on August 6, the CPI(M) Polit Bureau said the Narendra Modi government had vigorously promoted UPI under the Digital India initiative, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi repeatedly encouraging citizens, traders and businesses to move away from cash and adopt digital payments.
