New Delhi, July 7 -- The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday strongly opposed the Centre's proposed amendment to the National Food Security Act (NFSA), alleging that the changes would reduce foodgrain entitlements for the poorest sections of society and weaken the country's food security framework.

In a statement the CPI(M) Polit Bureau demanded the immediate withdrawal of the proposed amendment, which seeks to change the entitlement criteria under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) from the existing household-based system to a per capita system.
