Bhubaneswar, Aug. 20 -- The Odisha unit of the CPI (M) on Wednesday demanded an immediate revision of the Rs. 1,000 crore flood-relief package announced by the state government, terming it grossly inadequate, in view of the extent of damage caused by the floods.
"Losses are like an ocean, while compensation is like a drop," the CPI(M) said, arguing that such inadequate assistance could not compensate farmers and families who had lost crops, houses, livestock and livelihood.
The party's state secretariat said the package, announced on the basis of preliminary damage assessment, was "grossly inadequate" compared to the actual losses caused by the floods.
