Aizawl, Aug. 11 -- Mizoram has recorded a fresh increase in Covid-19 infections since the beginning of August, although the number of active cases has declined to five after a recent spike, according to officials of the Health department's Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP).

The state had five active cases as of Tuesday, down from 14 recorded on Saturday. The recent rise followed a prolonged period of low or no positivity, with new infections detected on August 4 and August 7.

On August 4, three of 32 people tested for suspected Covid-19 infection were found positive. A further six cases were detected on August 7 among 24 people tested, taking the number of active cases to 14.
