Mumbai, May 31 -- A metropolitan magistrate's court in Dadar, Mumbai, has acquitted a 49-year-old Bhiwandi-based doctor, Arshad Shaikh, in a case dating back to 2010 involving allegations that he fabricated a cancer diagnosis report using the letterhead of Tata Memorial Hospital.
The court held that the prosecution failed to establish the charges and pointed to significant shortcomings in the police investigation.
According to the prosecution, a woman who had undergone surgery for the removal of a breast lump submitted a tissue sample for pathological examination at Maxim Laboratory and Research Centre, a facility owned by Shaikh.
