Bengaluru, June 17 -- Senior Congress MLA and former Karnataka minister HC Mahadevappa on Wednesday dismissed as "baseless" a corruption complaint submitted against him to Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, alleging that the move was politically motivated and aimed at damaging his prospects amid ongoing discussions on cabinet expansion in the state.

The controversy comes at a politically sensitive time, with intense lobbying and internal jockeying underway within the ruling Congress over a possible reshuffle and expansion of the D. K. Shivakumar-led ministry.

Reacting to the complaint, Mahadevappa said the allegations were laughable and appeared to be part of a conspiracy to tarnish his public image.
