Barnala, July 16 -- The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Thursday arrested an inspector posted with a cooperative society in Barnala district while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a retired cooperative society secretary in exchange for closing a departmental complaint against him, officials said.

The accused was identified as Harsh Bansal, posted as an inspector at the Cooperative Society, Focal Point, Shahna.

Vigilance Bureau Inspector Gurmel Singh said the complainant, Jang Singh, a resident of Diwana village in Barnala district, had retired as secretary of the Cooperative Agriculture Service Society, Chhapa-Mahal Kalan.
