Varanasi, Feb. 21 -- The famous "Pyre Ash Holi", popularly known as "Masan ki Holi", scheduled at Manikarnika Ghat on February 28, has sparked strong opposition from religious authorities and scholars.

The event, which has gained popularity nationally and internationally through social media, is being criticised for being conducted at a cremation ground.

The Kashi Vidvat Parishad, All India Sant Samiti, and several scholars have strongly opposed the event scheduled for February 28 at the city's main cremation ground, saying that celebrating, creating a ruckus, and playing loud music at such a site is inappropriate.

Gulshan Kapoor, the event organiser, defended the tradition, calling it an ancient practice of Kashi.
