Lucknow, April 14 -- There's another piece of good news for smart meter consumers in Uttar Pradesh. While it is mandatory for electricity consumers to install smart meters, they now have the option to choose whether to use their meter on a postpaid basis or switch to a prepaid option.
A smart meter installation technician can only install a smart meter at your home; you will need to consult the electricity department for your desired option, officials of the power department here on Tuesday said.
It is worth noting that smart meters running on a postpaid basis will receive a monthly bill, just like a regular meter, and the consumer will have to pay compound interest on the outstanding bill.
