Puri, July 10 -- Construction of the three majestic chariots for the annual Puri Rath Yatra, scheduled to commence on July 16, is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed a day before the world-famous festival.

The three chariots will carry Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra on their nine-day annual journey to the Gundicha Temple.

Hundreds of artisans representing various traditional crafts are working in accordance with a meticulously planned schedule at the Ratha Khala, the chariot construction yard. The work began on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya and is scheduled to be completed within 44 days.
