VIBHA SHARMANew Delhi, April 17 -- Opposition MPs on Friday stuck a spanner in the Narendra Modi government's move to fast-track the Women's Reservation Bill-the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam-by defeating the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, which required more than a two-thirds majority for passage-a special majority comprising two-thirds of members present and voting, and more than 50% of the total membership of the House.
