Chandauli, March 13 -- A constable posted at the ARTO (Assistant Regional Transport Office) in Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh has been arrested in connection with an alleged illegal extortion racket targeting truck operators, police said on Friday.
The accused, Durga Prasad Srivastava, was arrested by the Sadar police station following instructions from the DIG after a truck owner filed a complaint.
According to the complainant, Sunil Yadav, truck operators were allegedly forced to pay Rs 5,000 per truck every month. Those who refused to pay reportedly faced threats of their vehicles being seized.
