New Delhi, Sept. 9 -- The Congress on Wednesday intensified its demand for changes in the ongoing caste census exercise, warning that the use of open-ended questions instead of a standardised list could lead to multiple names, sub-castes and spellings being recorded for the same caste and compromise the accuracy of the final data.
The party argued that a caste census should not be reduced to merely counting communities but should serve as a crucial instrument for advancing social justice, equitable representation and evidence-based policymaking.
