New Delhi, Aug. 31 -- The Congress on Monday intensified its attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Uttarakhand government over the registration of an FIR against Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, alleging that the action was intended to intimidate and silence those who had raised questions over the alleged "purification" of a venue following a rally addressed by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

Congress general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal said the FIR against Rahul Gandhi came a day after the Leader of the Opposition held a press conference demanding that BJP workers allegedly involved in the "purification" exercise following Kharge's rally be prosecuted.
