New Delhi, Aug. 24 -- The Congress on Monday launched a sharp attack on the BJP governments in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra over the deaths of tribal children in separate incidents, alleging grave lapses in nutrition, healthcare and hostel safety and demanding independent inquiries and action against those responsible.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, AICC Tribal Department chairman Vikrant Bhuria said the deaths of 22 children from the particularly vulnerable Baiga tribal community in Madhya Pradesh's Balaghat district, allegedly due to malnutrition and diseases, and the deaths of three tribal girls after snake bites at a hostel in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district exposed what he described as the "appalling" condition of tri...
