New Delhi, July 13 -- The Delhi Congress on Monday alleged that the BJP government's ongoing tree plantation drive in the national capital is falling short of its stated objective of improving green cover and tackling air pollution, claiming that shrubs are being planted instead of native tree species.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav said the "Mission 70 Lakh" plantation drive, launched under the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" initiative by union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Delhi government, had promised the plantation of native, long-lived species such as peepal, neem, banyan, and jamun.
