Bengaluru, May 24 -- Senior BJP leaders Pralhad Joshi and Jagadish Shettar on Sunday mounted a sharp attack on the Congress over its opposition to the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, alleging that the party was worried about the removal of "bogus and proxy voters" from electoral rolls.

Addressing reporters, Joshi claimed the Congress' criticism of the SIR process stemmed from "fear of defeat" and accused the party leadership of creating unnecessary controversy over a routine electoral exercise.

"The problem is not with SIR, but with the mentality of Rahul Gandhi," Joshi said, targeting Rahul Gandhi over the party's stand on the issue.
