Pune, June 1 -- The Maharashtra Congress has demanded strict action against officials allegedly responsible for approving and disbursing benefits under the Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana to beneficiaries who were later found ineligible.
In a statement here on Monday, senior Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Gopaldada Tiwari questioned how nearly 81 lakh beneficiaries were declared ineligible only after financial assistance had already been sanctioned and distributed under the scheme. He alleged that the Women and Child Development Department and the Finance Department failed to properly verify applications before approving the monthly assistance of rupees 1,500.
