New Delhi, July 18 -- The Congress on Saturday criticised the Delhi Police and the central government over the removal of of education reform activist Sonam Wangchuk from Jantar Mantar and his transfer to a hospital, alleging that authorities were attempting to suppress peaceful protests.
The party said the action was an attack on the constitutional right to dissent and accused the government of treating democratic protests as a law-and-order issue.
Congress media department chairman Pawan Khera said the Constitution provides every citizen the right to peacefully express opposition, but alleged that the union Home Ministry was seeking to curtail that right.
