Panchkula, June 28 -- Senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Haryana Government over its proposed school merger and rationalisation exercise, alleging that the move would adversely affect access to education and weaken the state's government school system.

In a statement issued here, Surjewala alleged that instead of addressing shortcomings in the education sector, the BJP government was attempting to shift the burden of its failures onto schoolchildren through school closures and mergers. He claimed that the move would particularly affect children studying in rural areas.
