New Delhi, Aug. 6 -- Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh on Thursday criticised the Centre's nationwide rollout of E20 fuel, alleging that the government's aggressive push for higher ethanol blending ignored its adverse implications for water resources and food security while being projected as an environmentally friendly initiative.

In a statement, Ramesh said the Narendra Modi government was portraying the rapid nationwide implementation of E20 fuel as a major step towards cleaner energy and reduced dependence on imported crude oil, but maintained that any credible assessment of the policy must consider its broader ecological costs.
