New Delhi, May 15 -- The Congress on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Narendra Modi government over its recent appeal to curb gold purchases and the steep increase in import duty on gold and silver, alleging that the moves would devastate the country's jewellery sector and threaten the livelihoods of nearly 3.5 crore people dependent on it.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Congress MP and General Secretary accused Prime Minister of contradicting his earlier political rhetoric and pursuing policies that would cripple small jewellers, artisans and workers across the country.
