Guwahati, March 7 -- Putting an end to speculation, four political parties led by the Congress on Friday came under a common platform to defeat the BJP in the forthcoming Assam Assembly elections.

Leaders, including APCC president Gaurav Gogoi, Asom Jatiya Parishad chief Lurinjyoti Gogoi, CPI(M) State Secretary Suprakash Talukdar, and APHLC President John Ingti Kathar announced their decision to come together at a joint press conference here.

"Today we have decided to join hands with the sole objective of defeat the communal politics of BJP. Today we are just four parties but we hope more political parties will join us before the elections so that we can strengthen ourselves," said Gogoi.
