Bengaluru, Aug. 23 -- The Congress party's internal power struggle in Karnataka has spilled over to the Legislative Council, with an intense battle underway for the post of Chief Whip, barely after the dust settled over the recent ministerial exercise.

The coveted post has turned into a fresh test for the party leadership, with different camps reportedly lobbying for their preferred candidates and seeking to assert their influence over the appointment.

The post fell vacant after Saleem Ahmed, who was serving as Chief Whip, was elected Chairman of the Legislative Council. Despite the Council completing its seven-day session, the Congress is yet to name his successor, underscoring the intensity of the competition.
