Bengaluru, April 5 -- Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy on Sunday triggered a political row by asserting that the Muslim community would regain its self-respect only if the ruling Congress is defeated in the ongoing by-elections.

Addressing reporters here, the senior BJP leader alleged that the Congress has treated Muslims merely as a "vote bank" and failed to ensure their socio-economic progress despite decades of political support. He claimed that the community continues to face marginalisation and neglect under Congress rule, and urged voters to "teach the party a lesson" in the bypolls.
