Dhaka, June 29 -- The Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA) has expressed deep concern over the continued detention of several prominent Bangladeshi journalists, including its Vice President, Shyamal Dutta, Editor of Bhorer Kagoj, alongside journalists Mozammel Haq Babu, Farzana Rupa and Shakil Ahmed of Ekattor TV.

Appealing for their immediate release, the organisation released a statement highlighting the cases of the detained journalists who have been in legal custody for the past 18 months, and said "We urge the Government of Bangladesh to honour its stated commitment to media freedom and its election pledge to withdraw politically motivated cases against journalists".
