Kolkata, Dec. 12 -- Kolkata experienced a sharper chill on Friday as the minimum temperature dipped to 14.8 degrees Celsius, about 1.3 degrees below normal.
Through the week, the city had hovered around 15 degrees Celsius, but the combination of clear skies and steady north-westerly winds brought the mercury down further.
The weather office said the conditions indicate that winter has now set in firmly across West Bengal.
Several districts recorded even lower temperatures. On Thursday, Darjeeling registered 4.5 degrees Celsius, while Sriniketan recorded 9.5 degrees Celsius and Alipurduar 9.3 degrees Celsius.
