Mangaluru (Karnataka), June 30 -- Battling rough seas, strong winds and fading daylight, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) mounted a high-risk rescue operation to save six fishermen after their fishing boat began sinking off the coast of Mangaluru, officials said on Tuesday.

The dramatic rescue unfolded on Monday evening after Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Sachet intercepted a VHF distress call at around 4 pm from Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Manju Matha, which was stranded nearly 33 nautical miles off the Suratkal coast.

The fishing vessel had suffered severe hull damage and rapid flooding due to rough sea conditions, leaving all six crew members stranded and facing imminent danger.
