New Delhi, Sept. 8 -- The Centre's Rs 37,500-crore coal and lignite gasification scheme has drawn seven applications from five companies, signalling early interest in using domestic coal resources to produce products such as urea, syngas and synthetic natural gas.

Among the applicants are state-run power major NTPC, Adani Enterprises, Talcher Fertilisers, Gallantt Ispat, and Shyam Sel & Power, the Ministry of Coal said on Tuesday.

Adani Enterprises has submitted three applications, all aimed at setting up urea production projects. Talcher Fertilisers has also sought financial assistance for a urea project.
