Kolkata, June 17 -- The state government, which has been emphasising transparency and cleanliness initiatives since coming to power, intensified its ongoing campaign on Wednesday as Chief Minister Shuvendu Adhikari personally participated in a cleanliness drive along the banks of the Ganga.

The Chief Minister visited Bagbazar Mayer Ghat in Kolkata on Wednesday morning and took part in the "Swachhatake Swagat" (Welcome Cleanliness) campaign.

He planted trees in the area and later picked up a broom to clean the ghat himself. Ministers Agnimitra Paul, Tapas Roy and several others were also present during the programme.
