Srinagar, Sept. 4 -- Clear skies during the day eased the overall flood threat in Kashmir, but several villages in central and south Kashmir were inundated following a breach and spillover from the Jhelum embankment.
A breach in the Jhelum river embankment in Budgam district triggered panic across several villages of the district and parts of Srinagar, prompting authorities to evacuate residents from low-lying areas.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg said that nearly 9,000 residents were evacuated after the breach in the morning inundated several villages.
