Kolkata, March 26 -- Fresh political violence rocked Basanti in South 24 Parganas on Thursday after clashes broke out during a campaign by BJP candidate Bikash Sardar, leaving at least eight police personnel injured.

According to allegations by the BJP, the trouble began when Sardar visited Basanti marker in the morning to canvass support ahead of the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026. Party leaders claimed that miscreants allegedly backed by the ruling Trinamool Congress disrupted the campaign and attacked BJP workers without provocation. Police personnel rushed to the spot following reports of tension.
