Mumbai, Aug. 25 -- Citizens, parents, local residents, Congress workers and NGO volunteers have objected to a proposed petrol pump coming up near Orchid International School in Mulund East, alleging that the site is barely five metres from the school and poses serious safety concerns.

Led by Rakesh Shankar Shetty, the residents on Tuesday carried out an on-site measurement between the school premises and the proposed retail outlet site, following which they claimed that the distance was only five metres.

They pointed out that the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), in its guidelines issued on January 7, 2020, has prescribed that new petrol pumps should generally not be located within a radial distance of 50 metres from schools, hospit...
