Kolkata, Sept. 10 -- Minutes after the Supreme Court lifted the protection from arrest granted to Sumit Roy, the CID arrested him from Abhishek Banerjee's Kalighat residence on Thursday morning.
The former assistant of Trinamool Congress general secretary was arrested in connection with the Salboni land scam case and was brought to the CID headquarters at Bhabani Bhavan.
He is scheduled to be produced before a court on Friday.
The arrest followed the Supreme Court's decision to revoke Roy's protection from arrest.
Soon after the apex court's order, the CID and STF intensified their search for him and deployed personnel at locations linked to Roy and Abhishek Banerjee.
