Moradabad, May 25 -- A major disastor was averted when a government chopper carrying Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak experienced a technical malfunction on Monday.

As Brajesh Pathak was about to take off from Moradabad Airport, one of the engines of the chopper stopped working and smoke began to billow from the helicopter.

Immediately, airport authorities and security agencies swung into action.

As a precaution, the chopper was stopped on the runway, and Brajesh Pathak was safely evacuated.

Sources said a technical team has begun inspecting the helicopter and the cause of the malfunction is being investigated.

Following the incident, security and vigilance have been increased at the airport.
