Chennai, July 10 -- Chennai's iconic and historic M A Chidambaram stadium, which had hosted the second Tied Test in cricketing history involving India and Australia, will be hosting the opening match of the Cricket Australia's popular Big Bash League (BBL) in December this year.
A decision in this regard during Prime Minister Narendra Mod's visit to Melbourne Cricket Stadium in Australia earlier in the day.
"The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) is delighted to announce that Chennai has been selected as the host city for the opening match of the 2026 season of the Big Bash League (BBL), scheduled to take place on December 12, 2026 at M A Chidambaram Stadium", its Secretary U Bhagwandas Rao said on Friday.
