Ranchi, May 9 -- The Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries on Saturday urged the state Government to reconsider the city tourist tax proposed on hotel stays, saying it would add to the burden on the hospitality sector and consumers.

In a letter to finance minister Radha Krishna Kishore, the chamber said the proposed Jharkhand City Tourist Tax Rules, 2025, would impose an additional levy on tourists staying in hotels. It said domestic tourists could be charged up to 2.5 per cent of the total bill based on GST slabs, while foreign tourists could face a higher levy, possibly up to 4.1 per cent.
