Panchkula, Aug. 20 -- The Centre has limited sugar stockholding by bulk consumers to a maximum of 15 days, placing large users under a time-bound stock control regime starting September 1.
The Department of Food and Public Distribution has issued the Sugar (Stockholding Limit of Bulk Consumers) Order, 2026 under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. The order, dated August 19, will be effective from September 1 to November 30, 2026, said an official of the food and supplies department on Thursday.
Under the order, large users who use more than 15 metric tonnes of sugar each month as raw material cannot keep sugar stocks for more than 15 days for that use.
The order defines large users as candy makers, soft-drink producers, food processors...
