Hyderabad/New Delhi, July 22 -- union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy on Wednesday welcomed the Centre's decision to increase rice procurement from Telangana by an additional 8 lakh metric tonnes, raising the target from 35 lakh metric tonnes to 43 lakh metric tonnes (equivalent to 64 lakh metric tonnes of paddy) for the Kharif Marketing Season 2025-26.

In a statement, Kishan Reddy said the decision was taken in the interest of Telangana farmers after he, along with BJP MPs and MLAs, met union Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi on July 8 seeking an enhancement in the procurement target.
