Panchkula, July 24 -- The Centre has taken a major step to improve digital accessibility for persons with disabilities.
It has proposed making accessibility standards mandatory for websites, mobile apps, digital content, software, and ICT-based public services under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has released the Draft Rights of Persons with Disabilities (Amendment) Rules, 2026.
Stakeholders have 30 days to send their objections and suggestions. These changes follow a Supreme Court judgement in Rajive Raturi v. union of India & Others, which told the Centre to set clear and enforceable accessibility rules under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
