Panchkula, Sept. 2 -- The union Road Transport and Highways Ministry has suggested changing the Central Motor Vehicles Rules so that the lowest noise limits for various types of vehicles will also apply to battery-operated vehicles in those same categories.
The proposal is contained in draft rules that the ministry notified on August 28. It seeks to amend the first proviso to Rule 120(2) of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
The existing provision states that where different noise levels are prescribed for vehicles, the lowest limit prescribed for the relevant category will apply to battery-operated vehicles.
