Mangaluru, Feb. 7 -- Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday said the state government was not consulted before the recent Metro fare hike and stressed that the decision was taken by the competent authority at the Centre under the Metro Railways (Operation & Maintenance) Act, 2002.

Speaking to reporters here, Shivakumar said the Central Government Secretary serves as the chairman of the fare fixation committee and has taken the decision.

"They didn't consult us. They have the authority, as the Central Government Secretary is the chairman. He has taken this decision," he said, adding that he did not want to create inconvenience for the public.
