Kolkata, Feb. 23 -- With the West Bengal Assembly elections approaching, the state's Chief Electoral Officer Monoj Agarwal on Monday held a high-level meeting with senior police officials to review the law-and-order situation and preparedness to maintain peace during the polls.
Sources said the meeting focussed on the deployment and effective utilisation of central forces once they arrive in the state.
The CEO stressed that central forces must not be kept idle and should be sent directly to operational areas without any delay.
Observers will closely monitor the movement and deployment of Central Reserve Police Force units.
