Hyderabad, June 23 -- : Eminent geneticist Dr. Kumarasamy Thangaraj, a CSIR Bhatnagar Fellow at the CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, was conferred the Padma Shri by President Droupadi Murmu at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-II held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.

Dr. Thangaraj has been recognised for his pioneering contributions to human genetics and population studies, which have significantly advanced understanding of the ancestry, migration patterns and genetic diversity of Indian populations, the Centre said in a release here.
