Hyderabad, Dec. 2 -- A CBI Court in Hyderabad has sentenced two postal assistants to two years of rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 65,000 each, for misappropriating Rs 27.27 lakh during the 2016 demonetisation period.
The convicted officials - Adapa Srinivas, then Postal Assistant (Treasurer), and U Rajyalakshmi, then Postal Assistant at the Humayun Nagar Sub-Post Office - were found guilty of fraudulently exchanging Withdrawn Old Series currency notes of Rs 500 and RS 1,000 with new currency worth Rs 27,27,397 between November 10 and November 24, 2016.
