New Delhi, Feb. 12 -- A special CBI court in North Goa has awarded a one-year jail term to former Canara Bank officer VVN Sastri and an individual Yasin K. Sheikh in connection with a bank fraud case.
The court, while pronouncing the sentence, also imposed a fine of Rs 70,000 on the accused.
The Central Bureau of Investigation registered the case based on a complaint from Canara Bank against Sastri and Sheikh.
It was alleged that Sheikh submitted false and forged documents, and Sastri, by abusing his official position, sanctioned a Canmobile loan of Rs 5 lakh to Sheikh for the purchase of a Hyundai car that was already owned by him.
