Ranchi, March 25 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Chief Commercial Inspector of South Eastern Railway in Ranchi in connection with a bribery case, officials said on Wednesday.

According to a CBI release, the accused was caught while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a complainant.

The agency said a case was registered on March 25 after allegations that the official had demanded a bribe amounting to 10 per cent of the complainant's pending bills worth about Rs 8.70 lakh for clearing them.

Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting Rs 50,000 as the first instalment of the allegedly negotiated bribe.
