New Delhi, Oct. 8 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Superintendent and an Inspector of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Santacruz Division, Mumbai, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 in exchange for issuing a favourable report and facilitating GST registration for a private firm.

The arrested officials have been identified as Vikram, Superintendent, and Lav Kumar Chittoria, Inspector, both posted in the CGST Santacruz Division.

According to the CBI, the case was registered based on allegations that the officers demanded the bribe from the proprietor of a textile trading firm that had applied online for GST registration on September 24.
