Bengaluru, Aug. 13 -- Karnataka witnessed a bandh on Thursday over the Cauvery water dispute, with pro-Kannada organisations protesting against the release of water to Tamil Nadu, while a mixed response in several parts of the State and differences among the groups backing the shutdown kept the extent of the stir uncertain.
The bandh, called by Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj and several Kannada organisations, was aimed at mounting pressure on the D K Shivakumar government to stop releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu and protect Karnataka's drinking water and agricultural requirements.
