Doha, May 10 -- A cargo vessel was struck by an "unknown projectile" 23 nautical miles northeast of the Qatari capital Doha, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) Center.

In a statement posted on X, UKMTO said a fire broke out onboard the vessel which was quickly controlled. There are no reports of any casualties.

"There was a small fire that has been extinguished, there are no casualties," the agency said, adding that investigations into the incident are ongoing. The master of the bulk carrier reported that the ship was hit by an unidentified object while sailing in the Gulf waters on Sunday, May 10, according to the statement.
